Background
Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), in partnership with Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, have been researching ways of combating and treating Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS), a potentially life-threatening condition for mother and baby which currently affects approximately 1 in 1000 women. Yet, despite an increasing number of women being diagnosed with the condition, there is little public awareness about PAS.
The challenge TCH and Baylor faced is due to PAS’s perceived rarity. Many doctors locally and worldwide lack the ability and training to correctly diagnose and treat it.

Solution
Myriad Global’s solution was to solve this training challenge with the effective use of virtual reality, in a project which will span two phases through 2020.
In Phase 1, we produced a highly emotional 3-minute documentary film, designed to help raise funds and awareness of the condition. With Phase 2 in 2020, we will create a synthetic environment using VR technology which will allow staff to train in a safe and realistic environment.
This two-pronged solution is not only a time and cost-saving one for the hospital, but it is expected to have a significant impact on the successful diagnosis and treatment of the condition, ultimately saving the lives of many women and babies.
