The brief.

A groundbreaking is a ceremony about something that doesn’t exist yet.

Sempra Infrastructure briefed us to visualize the Port Arthur LNG facility for two audiences with the same question: the guests at the groundbreaking ceremony, who needed to see what all the speeches were about, and the local community, who needed to see what the project would actually mean for the place they live. Both needed the facility made visible before it existed.

The opportunity.

Give the audience the ending first, in the real landscape.

For the ceremony, the animation shows the facility as it will stand, built in 3D at true scale, so every guest shares the same picture of the destination before a spade goes in. For the community, we went further: the facility placed in situ, on the actual site, so residents judge the real thing in the real place rather than an artist’s impression floating in space.

The work.

Drones over the site, CAD models on the footage, nothing approximate.

The work spans both phases of Port Arthur LNG. Photo-real 3D animation visualized the facility through Phase 1 and Phase 2, including the film that opened the Phase 2 groundbreaking ceremony, carrying the project story at event scale. Then, for community and local engagement, we flew drones over the site and overlaid 3D CAD models exact to the build specifications onto the footage, showing precisely what would stand where. Not an impression of the project: the project, to the drawing, in place.

The impact.

The moment the project became visible, to the room and to the neighborhood.

The animation gave the ceremony its opening image, and the drone-and-CAD films gave the community an honest preview of the built project in its landscape. When engagement rests on people trusting what they’re shown, accuracy to the specification is not a production detail; it is the point.
